Those who will benefit:

  • Existing formal dental laboratory technology educational programs:
    • Formal, existing can benefit from the access to the Foundation's web-based education by providing up-to-date, relevant, body of knowledge, perhaps even saving money and time for the existing programs.
  • Dental Laboratory Technicians (incumbent workers):
    • Dental laboratory technicians who are currently working in a laboratory setting will have access to the Foundation's web-based education and will therefore be able to educate themselves on the same level, utilizing the same knowledge, as formal educational, degree providing programs. The Foundation will work toward building a ladder from workplace delivered education to enabling technicians to apply for a degree-awarding educational institution.
  • Commercial Dental Laboratory Owners and Managers:
    • Many dental laboratories who employ more than a few people struggle with how to appropriately and adequately train and educate their employees so that their work is consistent and the product they produce meets their quality expectations. Part of the challenge is having the time to relay the necessary knowledge to the technician, on top of the time-consuming challenge of demonstrating the necessary physical skills. The Foundation's web-based education can become an important part of the in-house training and education for laboratories not able to develop their own. The NBC Modularization program can be the assessment mechanism available to laboratories to determine if their technicians have assimilated both the knowledge and skills necessary to be competent in specific areas of dental laboratory technology.

While the Foundation will have a close relationship to NADL and NBC, it will be its own entity with the goal of helping to educate dental laboratory professionals.

One of the Foundation's primary goals is to develop a web-delivered educational body of knowledge for dental technicians that will meet the needs of today's commercial dental laboratories.
